15 killed in mass shooting at South African bar, say police

In South Africa, 15 people were killed and others remain in critical condition in a mass shooting at an inn in the Soweto township of Johannesburg, according to police. Police say they are investigating reports that a group of men got into a minibus taxi shortly after midnight on Sunday and opened fire on some patrons at the bar.

Police Commissioner of Gauteng Province, Lieutenant General Ilyas Mawela, said the number of cartridges found at the scene indicated that a group of people opened fire at the bar.

“Preliminary investigations suggest these people were enjoying the time at the licensed inn here,” Mavella told the Associated Press.

“All of a sudden they heard some gunshots when people tried to run out of the inn. We don’t have full details at the moment as to what is the motive and why they were targeting these people,” he said. ,

He said, “You can see that a high caliber shotgun was used and it was shooting randomly. You can see that every single one of them was struggling to get out of the inn, ” They said.

He said the area where the firing took place was very dark, making it difficult to trace people who had identified the suspects.
