Eighty-four undocumented migrants were “rescued” from a tractor-trailer north of the Texas border with Mexico on Thursday in Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said on twitter,
“A concerned citizen called to report a tractor trailer … and seeing people disembark from the trailer,” Guerra said, the officers responded and “rescued 84 UDI (undocumented immigrants).”
The location Guerra specified in his tweet is described by Google as “a census-designated area” known as Oliverez.
He told CNN that the ICE Homeland Security Investigations is investigating the incident as a human trafficking case.
Guerra also told CNN that the people on the 18-wheeler are from Central America and that no one at the scene sought medical help.
