LA city council president Nouri Martinez announces her resignation On Monday, the president was heard making racist remarks about another councilor’s black son, according to a leaked audio recording of the conversation.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the talks took place in or around October 2021. As the Times reports, Martinez, council members Gil Cedillo and Kevin De Leon, and LA County Federation of Labor president Ron Herrera, all took part in the call. Herrera announced his resignation on Monday night.

Jean-Pierre said the president is following the LA City Council story closely, and believes all parties on the call to resign using or tolerate such “horrific” language. Should give.

“Look, the President is glad to see that one of the participants in that conversation has resigned,” said Jean-Pierre. “But they all should. They believe that they should all resign. The language used and tolerated during that conversation was unacceptable, and it was appalling. should leave.”

Martinez is take leave of absence from the council. Bonin has urged his council members to resign first, then to apologise.

But the call for the president to step down is perhaps the most public pressure local officials have seen so far.

Jean-Pierre sought to draw comparisons between Democrats and Republicans, claiming that Democrats hold each other accountable. He specifically mentioned GOP Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Doug Mastriano, the GOP candidate for governor in Pennsylvania. tuberville recently said Democrats are “pro-crime” and support compensation for the descendants of those who were enslaved because they believe “the people who committed the crime owed that.”

Maastriano criticized Josh Shapiro, his rival in the race for governor of Pennsylvania, for sending his children to Jewish schools.

“And here is the difference between Democrats and MAGA Republicans,” said Jean-Pierre. “When a Democrat says something racist or anti-Semitic, we’ll hold them, we … hold the Democrats accountable. When a MAGA Republican says something racist, or anti-Semitic, they cheer the crowd up and celebrate. Goes and asks for endorsements. Sen. Tuberville, don’t forget it just happened, saying that black people commit crimes. Doug Maastriano takes his kids to Jewish day school while attacking his opponent in the Pennsylvania governor’s race attacked to send in.”
