The Biden family is in Nantucket for Thanksgiving, a family tradition that dates back to the 1970s.
Then-Sen. Joe Biden was a widower with two young sons, Beau and Hunter, when he met Jill, and they wanted to spend their first Thanksgiving with the four of them as a family.
“The Nantucket Thanksgiving became our tradition for the next four decades,” Jill writes in her memoir “Where the Light Enters.” “With few exceptions, we’ve made the trek every year, creating rituals that would become an important part of our family along the way.”
They have continued this tradition as their family has grown, even after the birth of daughter Ashley in 1981 and the death of Beau Biden in 2015.
Here’s a guide to the Biden grandchildren who are likely to join him in Nantucket this year:
Naomi Biden, 28
Mr. Biden and Jill’s oldest granddaughter, Naomi, also lives with him in the White House, according to a recent “Vogue” article on their marriage. Naomi said she and her then-fiancé Peter Neal moved into the Washington, D.C., apartment after the lease expired.
Naomi Biden said, “I try to remind myself that this is the White House, but even that gets back to normal with time.”
Naomi is the eldest daughter of son Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle. She was named after Mr Biden’s daughter, who died in 1972 when she was just one year old.
Naomi and Neil married last week at the White House.
It is unclear whether the newlyweds joined the extended Biden family in Nantucket or if they are on their honeymoon elsewhere.
Finnegan Biden, 22
Finnegan Biden is Hunter Biden and Buhle’s second child. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, which Naomi posted on Instagram that Finnegan graduated in 2021.
“Filled with pride and forever awe of my first love and little s @finneganbiden ilysmsmsm,” Naomi posted alongside a photo of Finnegan in graduation attire.
Maisie Biden, 21
Maisie Biden is the youngest child of Hunter Biden and Buhle. While her grandfather was vice president, Macy attended Sidwell Friends with former President Barack Obama’s daughter, Sasha.
Mr. Biden said in 2019 that Maisie and Sasha were “best friends” and that the Bidens and the Obamas had a “perfect union” at their graduation.
Natalie Biden, 18
Natalie Biden is the eldest child of Mr Biden’s late son Beau and his wife, Hailey Biden. Born in 2004, she voted for the first time in October 2022 alongside Mr. Biden.
In a January 2021 interview with “Today’s” Jenna Bush Hager, Natalie stated that Thanksgiving is “our favorite holiday.”
“Because we usually go to Nantucket,” said Natalie. “Macy and I and my grandpa and my uncle and my dad … we used to do a polar bear plunge in Nantucket in November.”
Natalie was only 10 years old when her father, Beau, was diagnosed with brain cancer and died.
Robert “Hunter” Biden II, 16
Beau and Halley Biden’s younger son, Robert “Hunter” Biden II, was born in 2006. Mr. Biden held a young Hunter in his arms as he accepted the vice-presidential nomination at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Young Hunter Biden, who is named after his uncle, was confirmed in April 2021 at St. Joseph of Brandywine Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., where the president and first lady regularly attend Mass, according to People. Let’s take
Hunter Biden was just 8 years old when his father was diagnosed with brain cancer and later died.

Mr. Biden kisses a baby Beau Biden as he accepts the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. He brought beau out to the balcony of the White House after his inauguration in January 2021.
Hunter Biden and Beau also participated in a turkey pardon earlier this week. Mr. Biden and Jill brought Beau with them when they visited the Nantucket Firehouse on Thanksgiving.
