The members of BLACKPINK have made a successful comeback, and their growing popularity is proof. Their second full-length album, BORN PINK, was released a few days ago and has been breaking records one after another. According to the latest Billboard charts for the first week of October, the album’s title track Shut Down debuted to an impressive rank on the Hot 100 chart. For the inexperienced, the song has taken over the 25the spot on the chart, joining pre-release track Pink Venom on the chart which is already going strong for five weeks. Said track is currently located at 57the position on the graph.
Among others, BORN PINK’s title track Shut Down charted at number one on the Billboard Global 200 and Global Exclusive US charts. The track has now extended its record previously made by its predecessor, Pink Venom. Speaking of Shut Down, it also took the number one spot on the World Digital Song Sales chart.
BORN PINK on Billboard
Earlier in the week, it was also reported that BORN PINK had debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the girl group’s first. It makes BLACKPINK the only female K-pop act to date to have accomplished the feat and the first all-female group since 2008. The album has also surpassed TOP Album Sales, TOP Current Album Sales, and TOP Current Album Sales. Tastemaker albums.
On September 16, 2022, YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s partner agency, finally released the music video for Shut Down. The video begins with a feeling of addiction when we listen to the melodies of ‘La Campanella’ by Paganini. There is no denying that the song makes us believe that they are the ruling queens of K-pop, as the music video shows all the members spending their time together. This time, the group went for a simple yet effective MV that makes multiple references to older MVs that gave BLINK a bit of a nostalgic feel.
The music video seems to have beautiful past references to BLACKPINK’s previous songs, including their debut song BOOMBAYAH, DDU-DU DDU-DU, PLAYING WITH FIRE, Pretty Savage, and others.
