Captive shot dead by Border Patrol agents in El Pasos

A man was shot and killed by US Border Patrol agents in El Paso on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The victim was in the custody of Border Patrol at that time.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a news release Tuesday evening that the shooting occurred at 12:45 p.m. local time at the Yesleta border patrol station.

The victim was taken to the hospital, and later died, CBP confirmed to CBS News.

The victim could not be immediately identified. The circumstances that led to the shooting were not released.

The Mexican consulate in El Paso said in a statement that the victim was a Mexican national who was being processed for criminal charges.

The FBI, the El Paso Police Department and the USUS Customs and Border Protection Office of Professional Responsibility are involved in the investigation.
