A family in Texas has finally been reunited with their dog who ran away seven years ago. Earlier this month, a dog named Jazzy was found abandoned in a hotel room in Orlando, Florida, Orange County Animal Services said on Facebook.
Animal Rescue said she had arthritis and could barely walk when she was found. Staff then discovered she had been microchipped, the defense said, allowing them to track down Jazzy’s former owners in Texas.
The family told rescuers that Jazzy, who is now 12, was 5 years old when she was scared by fireworks.
“They searched for him for a long time, and after seven years he never gave up hope,” wrote the rescue.
Orange County Animal Services said that after being contacted by the shelter, Jazzy’s owner, Carey, boarded a plane from Texas to Florida, and the two were reunited on Saturday. Shelter wrote, “It was a tearful reunion, and it was incredible to see Jazzy come to life on her master’s voice.”
“She repeatedly licked his hand and moved her body as close as she could to him,” the rescue said. “After so many years, his heart still missed, and was finally whole.”
