FBI officials on Friday identified the body of a woman who was found floating near an island off Florida last week.
According to an FBI release, 34-year-old Heather Rose Strickland was discovered on December 10 after the US Coast Guard received a call shortly before noon from a group of fishermen who reported her body floating 13 miles off the coast of Egmont Key. Found it to be Tampa Bay area of west central Florida.
Strickland was found wrapped in a plastic garbage bag in bed, the release said. Investigators are awaiting a toxicology report from the medical examiner’s office to determine his cause of death.
Strickland was last seen leaving HCA Florida Largo Hospital on December 5. Originally from North Florida, Strickland spent the past five years in Clearwater and the St. Petersburg area. Both cities are located in Tampa Bay.
The FBI is leading the investigation because the body was located in international waters.
