California prosecutors file increased murder charges against suspect kidnapping and murder 8 months old baby, his parents and an uncle.

The Merced County District Attorney’s office on Monday filed four counts of first-degree murder under special circumstances against Jesus Manuel Salgado. The announcement comes days after 8-month-old Arohi Dheri was arrested and initially charged for the alleged kidnapping and murder; Her parents, 27-year-old Jasleen Kaur and 36-year-old Jasdeep Singh and her uncle Amandeep Singh, 59-year-old.

Prosecutors said the special circumstances were added because several murders were allegedly committed during the kidnappings.

Salgado was also charged with arson and possession of a firearm by a banned person. He was to be produced on Monday afternoon and faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The four deceased were family members Found on Wednesday by a farm worker in the San Joaquin Valley.

Salgado was held in the county jail on Thursday after being released from hospital after attempting to take his own life.

Jess Salgado had previously been convicted in Merced County of first-degree robbery with the use of a firearm, attempted false imprisonment and attempted to detain or deter a victim or witness. Sentenced to 11 years in state prison in that case, he was released in 2015 and released from parole three years later, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The department said he is also accused of possessing a controlled substance.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office said last week Jesus’ brother Alberto Salgado was arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, aiding and destroying evidence.

Police said Salgado’s feud with the family dates back to a year ago and “got very bad.” Jesus Salgado kidnapped the family from their trucking business on Monday before their bodies were found two days later.

“There are some things you would take to the grave. It was pure evil to me,” Merced County Sheriff Vern Warneke said in an interview Thursday.
