A suspect is in custody in connection with the murders of 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German, whoFollowing a popular walk in Delphi, Indiana in 2017, multiple sources told WTTV, a CBS Indianapolis affiliate. According to the police station report, one person was taken into custody on Friday.
CBS News did not immediately confirm the suspect’s name. The Indiana State Police announced that a press conference on the matter would be held Monday morning in Delphi.
The girls went missing on February 13, 2017, and their bodies were found a day later in a wooded area near the Delphi Historic Trail, where they were last seen. His death was considered murder.
Days after the disappearance, investigators released a photoIt appears to be a white man wearing blue jeans, a blue jacket and a hoodie, along with an audio recording. In April 2019, a video clip recorded on German’s cell phone was released with an updated sketch.
Over the years, investigatorsA search was on for the man, but no arrest warrant was issued, and no arrests were made.
German’s sister Kelsey tweeted early Friday: “Just know how grateful I am to all of you… today is the day.”
Last year, German’s grandmother was confident that an arrest would be made.
“Whether today or tomorrow, [the clock] It’s ticking,” Becky Petty said. “Technology is getting better and better and we’re going to get that.”
Delphi is located approximately 70 miles north of Indianapolis.
