Teen dies after falling through ice in Colorado pond; 3 other children have been rescued

A teenage boy died after falling into an icy pond in Roxboro Park, Colorado earlier this week, officials said. The boy was with three other children who had fallen in the snow and were rescued by neighbors.
West Metro Fire Rescue said crews were called to Crystal Lake Tuesday afternoon after four children fell through the snow. The fire department said three of them, two girls and a boy, were pulled out by neighbors using hoses, extension cords and ropes. they escaped.
According to the fire department, all three who were rescued by neighbors fell close to the shoreline, while one boy fell into deep water away from the shore. The fire department said neighbors could not reach him and he was pulled out by a dive team, taken to a local hospital and then to another hospital.
CBS Colorado reported on friday that the boy is dead. He was not immediately identified.

The fire department responded to a Twitter user who asked about the depth of the lake, saying, “Shallow at shoreline. Shelves drop off quickly to seven to eight feet.”
CBS News has reached out to the Douglas County Coroner’s Office for more information and awaits response. The fire department did not provide further details about the incident.
Roxboro Park is a community located approximately 25 miles south of Denver.
