Trio of Trump-related trials to be heard in New York on Monday

Opening statements in the case are due to begin Monday morning

Last week, prosecutors and defense attorneys Interviewed dozens of potential jurors, asking him questions to inquire about his feelings for Trump, even though he has not been charged in the case. Potential jurors faced the question of whether they might divulge their opinion for Trump – in many cases expressed with strong distaste – in order to be considered for charges against his company.

The process was difficult and many concluded they could not. In at least one instance, a potential juror believed at first that he was wrong, before realizing he could.

After saying on October 24 that he could be fair about Trump, on October 27 the potential juror asked to speak to Judge Juan Merchan. He said that for three days he had “very strong feelings about Donald Trump that turned into a very visceral feeling in my gut, reflecting his dislike for Trump.” He was forgiven.

The challenge to the jurors to sit was summed up in a social media post by defense attorney Michael van der Veen, who said, “The politics in the jury pool in this case runs nine out of 10 against our client.”

Van der Veen wrote, “For a fair hearing, we need to keep politics out.”

Trump called the allegations the result of a “witch hunt” and accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his predecessor, who launched the investigation, Cyrus Vance out of political animosity.

Arguments close to conclusion in Thomas Barrack’s trial

Politics is front and center in the billionaire businessman’s ongoing criminal trial Thomas BarrackA longtime Trump friend and adviser who served as chairman of the 2016 Inaugural Committee.

Barracks is accused of acting as an unregistered foreign agent in an attempt to influence US foreign policy in favor of the interests of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and has entered a not guilty plea. In this case, as in the Trump Organization’s Manhattan trial, potential jurors in federal court in Brooklyn were questioned about their feelings for Trump and said Trump could be called to the stand as well.

It never materialized, but two Trump administration officials testified – former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Barracks himself has been testifying in his defense for the past week, and will continue on Monday.

Barrack described his communications with UAE officials about the Trump administration as “inflammatory” and efforts to mediate disputes.

Barracks is expected to be the final witness called in the case, and Judge Brian Kogan indicated Friday that the jury could begin deliberations this week.

Trump and Company’s civil trial begins

Trump’s political and corporate interests have been combined in a lawsuit that heads for civil trial in the Bronx on Monday, where five plaintiffs say they were attacked by Trump’s security team outside Trump Tower in September 2015 , and the property was destroyed.

The men were protesting statements made by Trump – then the Republican presidential nominee – related to civil rights and Mexican immigrants.

His case progressed slowly while Trump was president, but eventually involved a court-ordered videotaped statement from Trump, which was completed in October 2021. Others were also dropped in the suit in the early days of his candidacy in Trump’s orbit.

Trump and the Trump Organization have been named in the lawsuit and have denied all allegations. The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages.

Potential jurors will be locked in a courtroom on Monday and told – as were others in Manhattan last week, and in Brooklyn last month – that they will need to set aside their prejudices about Trump, who has been told by witnesses. as may be called for, and may make an impartial decision.
