For the seventh year in a row, Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton are getting together for Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday tradition shared between two families, but the world has been a part of it since the beginning.
If you haven’t heard of Dench and Hinton before, you’re missing out on a vacation story that sounds like the plot of a movie. Actually, NetflixThey are developing the story into a film.
It all started in 2016, when Dench and Hinton first connected — quite by accident — via text.
Dench thought she was sending a message to her grandson about Thanksgiving plans, but mistakenly sent the message to Hinton, who was a complete stranger. Though he didn’t act like a stranger, he jokingly asked if he could still join her for the holiday even though Dench was no longer his grandmother. And Dench assures her she’ll have a plate for her.
The text got mixed up in Hinton’s screenshot and it went viral. That Thanksgiving, he moved from Tempe, Arizona, to Mesa to celebrate with Dench and her family.
He was just a teen at the time, but he’s 22 now, and every year since then, he shares his plans for Thanksgiving. And every year the story goes viral. Hinton and Dench, 65, have also added to their guest list to include Hinton’s girlfriend Mikaela.
But in 2020, Hinton shared sad news. Dench’s husband, Lonnie, had died of COVID-19, They still got together for the holiday that year, in a racy gathering to honor Lonnie.
Hinton now has 142,000 Instagram followers on social media. But he made fans of the tradition wait until Tuesday night when he finally revealed that he and Dench were together for the seventh year in a row.
“To answer all your questions, yes Thanksgiving Year 7 is planned! See you guys Thursday!” He wrote while sharing a photo of himself and Dench.
While their annual get-together gets most of the attention, Dench and Hinton hang out on other days, too. In fact, when with she got her first tattoo in September.
she explained her choice of tattoos In a tweet: “I got three shooting stars. Each one represents my Guardian Angels in Heaven — my husband who stood for integrity, my mother who was courageous, and my father who was all about unconditional love.”
Hinton said they had a great time tagging along.
“Congratulations to Wanda on her first tattoo!! We had a blast with her!”
